Best Scuba Diving Headbands

If you have very long hair, curly hair, or just any amount or length of hair, scuba diving with it can be annoying. Especially if the hair keeps getting all over your mask covering the beautiful view. Sometimes long hair gets caught in the diving gear or among the seaweed. Scuba diving can also leave your hair all tangled up if it’s not properly tamed. In this article, we’ll look into the best scuba diving headbands for women and men.

If you are not a big fan of headbands, don’t worry I’ll list the best scuba diving beanies, hoodies, and some hairstyles you can use to keep your hair well-managed while scuba diving.

Let’s get right into it!

Cressi Neoprene Mask Strap Cover

Cressi Neoprene Mask Strap Cover

A headband made for scuba divers. Silicon and rubber straps found on masks can grip and pull hair in the process of putting the mask on or taking it off.

If you are like me and hate it when strands of hair get caught up in straps, this is a perfect solution. Ditch the straps for a mask strap cover.

The strap cover goes on the back of your head meaning you hit two birds with one stone. It acts as a mask strap and as a headband.

Simply place it over your hair to prevent it from flying all over your face or mask. This is a perfect yet simple solution for divers with very long hair.  You may or may not braid your hair down before putting on the mask strap.

DASUTA Headbands

These are versatile workout headbands that also work well when scuba diving. If you are looking for something to keep hair out of your face and mask, these headbands will work perfectly.

For divers with very long hair, putting the hair in a braided ponytail is important. Divers with curly hair will also love this headband as it keeps all the hair well managed.

When diving in very cold water, this may not be a good choice since it only manages hair but doesn’t keep you warm. A neoprene diving hood or beanie does a better job at managing the hair and keeping you warm in cold waters.

Scubapro Diving Headband

This neoprene diving headband not only tames your hair while diving but also keeps your ears warm and protected from surrounding water pressure.

The thick neoprene material used in manufacturing the headband helps keep the ears warm while diving. Water is known to draw heat away from the body 25x faster than any other medium be it warm or cold.

If you tend to get very cold when diving this is a great accessory to your diving gear.

Besides keeping the ears warm, it’s also perfect for managing hair while diving. You may opt to place it over your hair or under. Divers with relatively short hair can lay the hair back flat and then put on the headband. Those with longer hair can also use it in a similar way or place it under since you still need to manage the ponytail.

Whichever way works best for you be sure you are not interfering with the mask straps or feeling uncomfortable while wearing it.

When wearing diving earplugs, this headband keeps them in place, you can relax and not worry about the earplugs falling into the water.

This headband is perfect for both men and women.

TYR Lycra Swim Cap

A swim cap can also serve as a headband if you don’t have access to any other form of headgear.

If you are looking for a simple way to keep your hair in place while diving, this is a good place to start.

As discussed in this article, swim caps are not the first option divers go for when looking for a way to tame their hair. If you must use one, ensure it fits perfectly and doesn’t cause the mask straps to slip off.  If the mask slips while wearing a swim cap, you are better off diving without the swim cap.

The Lycra swim cap is perfect for divers with shorter hair as it will cover it all and allow proper mask wearing. Those with longer or curly hair will experience some challenges trying to cover up all the hair in the small swim cap as well as fit their mask straps.

Neo Sport Multi-Density Wetsuit Hood

Diving hoodies are more common among divers. Manufactured using thick neoprene material helps keep the head, ears, neck, and face warm, especially when diving in cold water regions.

The neoprene material is breathable so don’t worry about suffocating in it or feeling uncomfortable wearing it.

Many divers love diving hoods for the extra protection from the neck up. Unlike headbands, mask straps, and durags that only cover the hair, with a hoodie you get extra protection and insulation while diving.

The hair is completely covered in the hood unless you have extra long hair, then some may still stick out of the hood.

In addition, the hoodie protects divers from UV rays, stings, or scratches on the face while diving.

Most of the diving hoods are customizable to fit the diver’s face shape.

Yonsub Diving Hood

Yonsub Diving Hood

Another top-rated diving hood, perfect for all-weather diving and for hair protection.

Divers planning deep long dives need a hood since temperatures tend to drop the deeper you dive. This hood is easy to dive into as the neoprene material keeps you safe and comfortable. Depending on your desired hood thickness, these come in 2- 5mm options.

In addition, divers are also protected from harmful UV rays and any stinging marine life.

A perfect hood for all water sports, if you participate in other activities such as snorkeling the hood comes in handy.

Scuba diving Beanies

Similar to diving hoods, scuba diving beanies are also made from neoprene, the same material used to make wetsuits.

Diving beanies cover the ears, head, and a small part of the face keeping you warm.

Diving hoods may sometimes feel restricting especially for ladies with very long and curly hair. Beanies on the other hand are more comfortable in these scenarios.

Since the beanie doesn’t go all the way down to the neck, it is easier to wear with long hair.

With the adjustable loop at the chin, it’s easy to adjust the beanie to your size and comfort.

Beanies are fit for both male and female divers.

Hair ties

Hair ties come in handy, especially in taming a long ponytail. Simply add the hair ties on the pony leaving a small distance from one tie to the next.

The goal is to keep the hair together while diving since it can easily unravel if not properly secured.

With hair ties, no need to use a headband, hoodie, or beanie, the hair is well secure and you are guaranteed it will stay in that same position till the end of the dive.

When buying hair ties, always go for the ones without metal on them to avoid pulling on your hair.

Hair ties

The best thing about hair ties is you can use them outside of diving as they are an everyday accessory for many ladies. One thing I love about these hair tie deals is how much you get for less than 10 dollars. You can never have too many of these I promise 🙂

As promised here as some of the hairstyles to keep your hair well maintained while scuba diving.
